Boise, Idaho, February 29, 2012 - The Southern Bleacher Company, based in Graham, Texas, will add nearly 9,000 seats to Bronco Stadium at Boise State University this year, a $3.1 million project that will expand the famous blue-turfed venue to accommodate more than 37,000 fans.

Southern Bleacher will work under Boise's McAlvain Design Build, Inc. for the project to fabricate and install 8,818 seats in the north and south end zones as well as the northwest grandstands.

The Idaho State Board of Education unanimously approved the expansion in 2011 after last year's football showdown between Boise State and Air Force packed the stadium with a record-breaking 34,000+ fans in a stadium that today seats 33,500.

"This is one of the most famous stadiums in the country and home to a truly dedicated fan base that's been growing steadily in recent years," said Garrett Pettus, vice president of Southern Bleacher. "We're honored and excited to be a party of this important project for Boise State."

As a community benefit on top of accommodating more fans, the expansion will open more affordable seating for family plans. Also, more than 5,000 seats replaced by the project will be relocated to a new track and field and high school football complex to be completed this year.

Boise State broke ground for Bronco Stadium in 1969, completing the original build, seating 14,500, in 1970. This 2012 expansion will be the largest in 15 years. In addition to football, the stadium hosts track and field events and is home to the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, formerly named the Humanitarian Bowl.

In 1986, Bronco Stadium, nicknamed "The Blue," became the first stadium to cover its entire field in specially colored turf: Bronco blue.

Boise State's Broncos football will join the Big East Conference starting in the 2013 season, further expanding the Conference that today has the biggest footprint in college athletics. In 2013, the Big East football lineup will include Boise State, UCF, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Houston, Louisville, Memphis, Navy, Rutgers, San Diego State, SMU and USF.
